Excellence In Writing
The Writing Programs and the Department of English offer two “Excellence in Writing Awards” each year, one for a paper written in a First-Year Writing course, and one for a paper, portfolio, or project written in an Advanced Writing in the Disciplines course. Both awards are intended to recognize exceptional student writing that demonstrates thoughtful and critical reading, thinking, and revising.
Call for Submission
To be eligible, a student must have earned an A or A- in a required writing course taken in the previous calendar year (January to December). The ENG 111 paper, or the AWD portfolio or project, is due by the Friday of the third week of classes in the Spring term following the year in which the paper was written.
Submit hardcopy for the Excellence in First-Year Writing Award to Professor Patricia Sullivan, and hardcopy for the Excellence in AWD Award to Professor David Kellogg, both in the Department of English, 406 Holmes Hall. Please direct any questions about the award to them at pa.sullivan@neu.edu, or d.kellogg@neu.edu. Papers from 2008 must be submitted by Friday, January 30, 2009.

All work may be revised prior to submission.
The winner receives a $100.00 gift certificate to use at the Northeastern Bookstore (to be added to the student’s Northeastern account). Up to three honorable mentions for each program may be awarded.
The winners and honorable mentions are honored at the Writing Programs Symposium.
