Undergraduate Major & Minors
The English Department offers both a Bachelor of Arts in English and minors in literature, writing, and rhetoric. To earn the degree or to complete a minor, undergraduates take courses in composition, rhetoric, creative writing, linguistics, literary studies, and literatures in English.
The undergraduate major prepares students for graduate study, as well as for careers in teaching and research, advertising and publishing, radio and television— indeed, for careers in any field in which communication and critical judgment go hand in hand. The Bachelor of Arts in English is also an excellent pre-professional degree for those who plan to go on to careers in such fields as law, journalism, and medicine.
For students wishing to broaden and enrich their studies, the English Department also offers dual majors with Cinema Studies and Linguistics.
