- Research areas and interests: medieval literature, composition
- Selected publications: In medieval studies: Allegorica, Arthuriana, Assays, Exemplaria (print, and web-print), Parergon, and Studies in Philology. Also Menacing Virgins: Representing Virginity in the Middle Ages and Renaissance (co-edited with Marina Leslie). Most recently, Performing Virginity and Testing Chastity in the Middle Ages (Routledge). In composition: Reading to Write: A Practical Rhetoric, an experimental essay in PRE/TEXT, and co-author of the "Portland Resolution." In addition, a general introduction, A.S. Byatt, and "A.S. Byatt" in the Oxford Encyclopedia of British Writers. Current projects: a monograph titled "Malory's Desire for History and the History of Desire" and two short projects, one on the Arthurian theme in Russ Meyer's campy cult film, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, and the other on the figure of Candace in medieval Alexander legends. Forthcoming in Exemplaria: "Hollywood Simulacrum: The Knights of the Round Table (1953)”
