The English Department's faculty pursues an active program of research and writing that reflects their varied interests: literary studies and critical theory, the writing of both poetry and fiction, linguistics, and the theory and practice of composition and technical and professional writing. The Department publishes a scholarly journal, Studies in American Fiction, and also sponsors the annual Samuel French Morse Poetry Prize.
