Each year, we admit 10-15 new students to the graduate programs.

We don't have a GRE or GPA minimum and we evaluate all parts of the application in the context of the whole.

- Is the Subject Test in Literature required for all applicants?
Yes. Applications without valid Subject Test scores will not be considered by the Review Committee. Please note, the Subject Test is offered only three times a year.

- What is the minimum TOEFL required for admission?
For acceptance into a graduate program, the minimum TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), or 79-80 (internet based-test).

The online application system allows you to log-in and check the status of your application at any time.

- Do you offer a Master of Fine Arts?
No.

- Do you have programs for teachers of ESL?
The English Department does not offer programs for teachers of ESL. Information on a related NEU graduate certificate program can be found at the College of Professional Studies webpage.

- Do you offer an MA in technical and professional writing?
The English Department no longer offers the Master in Technical and Professional Writing degree program, but a similar program is offered through the College of Professional Studies.
