Welcome
The Department of English offers a wide variety of graduate programs that address many of the theoretical and applied issues generated by the study of literature and language: literary history and theory, linguistics, creative writing, and composition studies. Graduate study takes full advantage of the opportunities offered by Boston's museums and libraries.
The Doctor of Philosophy degree program is full time. The other degree program, which can be taken either full- or part-time, is a Master of Arts in English (M.A.) with a concentration either in literature or in rhetoric and composition.
Graduate students and alumni of the graduate programs are active in the discipline and honored as teachers and scholars. View a list of graduate student and alumni honors, activities, and accomplishments.
The requirements for the English graduate program can be found in the College of Arts and Sciences graduate brochure, available as a downloadable PDF at www.cas.neu.edu/graduate/english.pdf.
